Workers assaulted during housebreaking in Brandvlei

Break-ins and theft remain rife across Rand West City according to the latest statistics of a local security company.

Mapogo A Mathamaga continue to have their hands full in responding to crime in and around Randfontein. This is evident in their latest crime statistics which revealed that they responded to a total of five serious crime incidents between the period from July 24 to July 29.

The first incident was that of housebreaking and theft that occurred on July 24 on Markgraaf Street in Brandvlei.

According to the information received, intruders gained entry into the premises in question by forcing open the doors of three houses belonging to workers residing on the property. It is understood that the intruders went on to assault the workers and stole TVs, amplifiers, cellphones and various items.

In a separate incident, the security company recorded another housebreaking and theft, this time in Railway Street, Homelake on July 29.

Here, it is believed that the perpetrators gained entry by jumping over the perimeter wall and went on to force open a security gate. They then stole a Bluetooth speaker, clothes, and knives among other items.

Another incident recorded on the same day, July 29 is that of attempted theft. Here, it is believed that a wrongdoer gained entry into the premises by jumping over a perimeter wall and attempting to steal two geysers and copper pipes.

Meanwhile, on July 29 an incident of theft was recorded and an arrest was made.

Mapogo A Mathamaga operations manager Danie Vermeulen said this is for an incident that occurred on Chevrolet Street in Aureus.

“Suspects gained access through the main gate. The onsite security guard activated the panic button and our armed reaction unit was dispatched. Upon arrival, two suspects were arrested for stealing a compressor motor and they were handed over to the Randfontein SAPS,” said Vermeulen.

He added that another incident recorded on July 30 is that of theft on Constancia Street in Culemborg Park.

This is where robbers gained entry into the premises and went on to steal two outside alarm beams.
