Streak of generosity a lifeline for SPCA

Donation efforts by businesses, the community and a motorcycle club will go a long way in ensuring that the RandWest SPCA continues doing their jobs and taking good care of animals.

RandWest SPCA recently received a lifeline in the form of donations from different organisations including businesses which will now ensure that the animals in their care are well looked after.

This comes after a woman visiting their charity shop in June overheard their struggles and decided to post anonymously on social media, asking for help that will assist the SPCA. The response to this was overwhelming and saw people calling in to show their support by making different donations in the form of food and other items.

According to Randwest SPCA Manager Naomi de Beer, this was their saving grace.

“In June this year, inspector Rene van Straten’s vehicle had to be parked as both back wheel bearings were packed up. My vehicle’s whole front suspension had to be replaced due to wear and tear as well so it was a very dangerous situation for us driving around with the old vehicle. But we had no choice.

“The afternoon of July 20, Rene asked if we [committee and management] managed to arrange something with regards to her vehicle. There were two women in our charity shop at the time and they overheard our conversation. It was then confirmed that the one woman posted on Facebook anonymously to request help for us and we would like to thank her for the post,” said De Beer.

She added that it was this exact post that led to the amazing response about donations and also resulted in Leon Barker from Leon’s Service Centre in Aureus reaching out to the team and fixing their vehicles.

According to De Beer, these efforts will go a long way in ensuring that they continue doing their jobs and take good care of animals.

“Naughty by Nature Motorcycle Club also had a collection drive, not just for us, but for other animal organisations in our area as well. Pet Supreme in Aureus also donated dog food. We also had a lot of members of the public bringing donations to our offices,” said De Beer who gave thanks to all those who were involved in the donations.

The donations in question range from dog and cat food, blankets, treats for the animals, and cleaning supplies.

In addition, RandWest SPCA also had another huge donation from All In One Tyres and AGS Health in Roodepoort.

They donated animal feed, treats, blankets and cleaning materials, which are all highly appreciated. Those who wish to offer monetary assistance can do so with monthly contributions.
