Armed robbery in Greenhills one of 11 incidents reported

A total of 11 serious crime incidents were reported in Rand West City this past week.

A domestic worker was held at gunpoint during an armed robbery in Greenhills in one of 11 serious incidents reported to Mapogo A Mathamaga Security in Rand West City for the period from Monday, May 15 to Sunday, May 21.

The security company’s operations manager Danie Vermeulen explained the incident took place at 10:22 last Tuesday, May 16.

Suspects entered through the main gate and held the domestic at gunpoint. The suspects went on to steal one TV, one laptop and various jewellery.”

1. Tuesday, May 16 at 23:56 – Attempted business break-in, Elite Centre, Greenhills

Mapogo A Mathamaga armed reaction officer noticed two suspects smashing a window of a local business. The reaction officer gave chase while requesting backup units. One of the suspects was seen holding a firearm while fleeing. The suspect dropped the firearm and fled the scene. The armed reaction officer stopped and found that it was a plastic imitation firearm.

2. Thursday, May 18 at 11:04 – Business break-in and theft in Third Street, Randfontein

Suspects entered through the roof and proceeded to steal various items from the shop.

3. Thursday, May 18 at 09:29 – Business break-in and theft in Homestead Avenue, Homelake

Suspects gained entry by climbing up the staircase rails and entering the business. The suspects went on to steal various bottles of alcohol.

4. Friday, May 19 at 03:42 – Business break-in and theft in Tambotie Street, Homelake

Suspects gained entry by cutting open locks on security gates and smashing the entrance glass door. The suspects went on to steal various items and a card machine.

5. Friday, May 19 at 04:44 – Business break-in in Homestead Avenue, Homelake

Suspects gained entry by climbing up the staircase rails and entering the business. The Mapogo A Mathamaga armed reaction officer checked the premises and requested that the owners be contacted to open up the business for further investigation. While checking the premises the armed reaction found one suspect hiding inside the business. The suspect was swiftly arrested and handed over to the police.

6. Friday, May 19 at 05:21 – Theft of a motor vehicle in Beatrice Road, Homelake

Suspects gained entry by breaking the lock of the main gate. The suspects stole a Mahindra Bolero.

7. Saturday, May 20 at 01:10 – Trespassing in Leerdam Street, Culemborg Park

Upon responding to a panic activation, the Mapogo A Mathamaga armed reaction officer made contact with the client who informed him that he heard a noise on the roof. Upon investigation, the armed reaction officer discovered one suspect hiding on the roof. The suspect was arrested and handed over to the police.

8. Saturday, May 20 at 13:46 – Trespassing in Condor Road, Helikon Park

A suspect broke the electric fence and jumped over the main gate. Mapogo A Mathamaga control room received a panic signal from the premises and upon arrival the armed reaction officer discovered the suspect and arrested him. The suspect was handed over to police.

9. Sunday, May 21 at 04:48 – Theft in Kwartel Street, Greenhills

A Suspect jumped over the perimeter wall and went on to steal one outside alarm beam.

10. Sunday, May 21 at 08:18 – Theft in Flamink Street, Helikon Park

Suspects gained entry into the property and went on to steal one outside alarm beam.
