Latest Okae Molao operation: 165 arrests made
Another 165 people were arrested during a major Okae Molao operation on Thursday, May 18.
Another major Okae Molao operation was held on Thursday, May 18 led by the Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela.
The operation saw many different law enforcement agencies such as SAPS, the Traffic Department, the Department of Home Affairs, the Department of Community Safety, Private security companies, and the Community Policing Forum joining hands to clamp down on crime across the West Rand District. Their presence was felt greatly by the public as the operation kicked off very early that day.

Crime prevention activities that were conducted by the police were roadblocks, Vehicle Check Points (VCP), liquor outlets compliance inspections, and stop and searches.
According to Colonel Dimakatso Sello, more than 165 people were arrested for among others having unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of gold-bearing material, possession of stolen motor vehicles, possession of drugs, and possession of suspected stolen property. Many undocumented persons were also arrested and numerous traffic fines were issued.
The arrests also include 69 suspects arrested by the detectives during their tracing operation which is the first phase of Operation Okae Molao conducted the night before on Wednesday, May 17.

All of the suspects who were arrested are expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court soon.
