Another 168 arrests: Most for driving under the influence of alcohol

Police held various operations in the West Rand District over the weekend. They arrested 168 people, most for drunken driving followed by assault.

Police in the West District and its stakeholders continue to pile on the pressure on criminals after making yet another 168 arrests during weekend operations held from Friday, 5 May to Sunday, 7 May.

Those arrested committed various offenses including:

• Exposure of genital organ to a minor child (one)
• Possession of unlicensed firearm and Ammunition (one)
• Pointing of a firearm under domestic violence (one)
• House breaking and theft (two)
• Theft (eight),
• Assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (14)
• Common assault under domestic violence (10)
• Common assault and intimidation (two)
• Malicious damage to property (two)
• Armed robbery (one)
• Common Robbery (two)
• Possession of stolen property (eight)
• Driving under the influence of alcohol (34)
• Possession of drugs (11)
• Dealing in dagga (two)
• Assault common and malicious damage to property (one)
• Assault GBV and theft (one)
• Reckless and negligence driving and driving under the influence of alcohol (two)
• Possession of copper cable (one)
• Contravening the mine health safety Act (six)
• Illegal mining (four)
• Burglary business (one)
• Contravening a protection order (one)
• Possession of a dangerous weapon and housebreaking implements (one)
• Possession of suspected stolen property (three)
• Possession of dagga (one)
• Loitering (five).

Offenses such as shoplifting and undocumented persons were also policed.

West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana confirmed that all the suspects will make appearances in court and he further encouraged citizens in the West to be vigilant of crimes taking place.
