Glenharvie woes with water supply continue

The municipality is experiencing burst water pipes in Glenharvie almost every week, due to the aging infrastructure.

The Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) is faced with a string of problems when it comes to the water supply in Glenharvie and is being dealt with one blow after the other.

This is evident in the interactions the Herald had with RWCLM spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa who said apart from the water challenges in the area resulting from Rand Water’s side, they too are faced with challenges of aging infrastructure.

“We are faced with several challenges when it comes to Glenharvie and that includes the issue with Rand Water where there was a low supply of water to our reservoirs system.

“This, unfortunately, affected our water supply in the area and as a result, we were faced with a situation where we struggled to fill up our reservoirs.

“When our system was recovering, we then experienced burst pipes because of switching on and off of our pumps,” said Montshiwa who added that the problem has since worsened as they are now experiencing burst pipes in the area almost every week.

He said they are also struggling with aging infrastructure which needs to be replaced.

As a result, the municipality is currently implementing a project of refurbishment and upgrade of the Glenharvie pump station and water pipe supply.

Before this, water levels had dropped to just 5 percent as a result of Rand Water’s feeding supply to the Glenharvie reservoir.
