Two armed robberies four days apart – Mapogo crime report

Incidents also included copper cable theft and two attempted break-ins which occurred on the same day.

During this week there were two armed robberies, one robbery occurred in Finsbury and the other in Helikonpark in two of the five incidents reported to Mapogo A Mathamaga Security in the Rand West City for the period Wednesday, April 19 to Sunday, April 23.

The security company’s operations manager Danie Vermeulen explained the first incident took place at 22:46 last Thursday, April 20 in Finsbury.

“Suspects gained entry through the main gate. They then entered the house, pointed their firearms at the clients, and robbed them of three laptops, two cellphones, one LED TV, and one Nissan NP 200 vehicle.”

The other armed robbery incident occurred in Helikonpark at 13:08 yesterday (Sunday, April 23).

Danie explained that the suspects gained access by posing to view the property for rental purposes.

“The suspects then produced a firearm and ordered the owner of the house to lie down and proceeded to tie the owner up and went on to take one cellphone, house keys, bank cards, and jewellery.”

Details about other incidents:

1. Wednesday, April 19 at 00:50 – Attempted break-in, Greenhills circle

Upon arrival at the premises, the officers of Mapogo A Mathamaga noticed an attempted breaking. Two suspects were arrested and handed over to the police.

2. Wednesday, April 19 at 16:23 – Attempted break-in, Raven Road, Greenhills

A suspect attempted to gain access into the house by bending the security bars open but fled the scene when the alarm sounded.

3. Saturday, April 22 at 08:00 – Copper cable theft, Freda Street, Homelake

Mapogo A Mathamaga armed reaction officers were approached by PRASA security officials to assist with a complaint of cable theft. Upon investigation, three suspects were discovered digging up copper cables. One arrest was made and two suspects managed to evade arrest.
