More power issues for Mohlakeng

The municipality reveals residents of Mohlakeng will experience electricity problems for a little longer.

Mohlakeng residents are not out of the electricity ‘woods’ just yet and have to sit tight a little longer.

This comes as the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) revealed challenges in restoring power to the area after load-shedding.

News of this was confirmed by the municipality’s spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa who added that they cannot meet the current demand for electricity in the area due to challenges with Eskom.

“The municipality ordinarily requires 900 Amperes to meet the electricity demand for Mohlakeng. Eskom has unilaterally reduced the relay setting at the Mohlakeng substation from 900 Ampere to 430 Ampere. This places the municipality in the untenable position of not being able to meet the electricity supply to Mohlakeng.

“We have engaged with Eskom to reset the relay setting to the 900 Ampere and awaiting their response thereto. While we await Eskom’s response, we request that residents switch off all appliances that are not in use.

“Please also keep all geysers and heaters off’ till at least one hour has lapsed from power restoration due to load-shedding,” said Montshiwa who added that the municipality apologises for the inconvenience.
