Two vehicles collide after swerving out for potholes, woman hospitalised

A woman was injured and transported to a hospital after two vehicles collided trying to avoid potholes.

A woman had to be transported to the hospital after her vehicle collided with another while allegedly attempting to avoid a pothole on the R559 in Vleikop on Thursday morning, April 13.

The crash occurred shortly after 08:30 and caused major delays in traffic travelling to and from Randfontein.

The Herald was at the scene and spoke to Marius Fortune from towing company First Help who said the Haval and VW Caddy were travelling in opposite directions when the incident occurred.

Traffic was affected for motorists travelling to and from Randfontein, due to the accident.

“The driver of the Haval was travelling from Randfontein and heading towards the direction of Carletonville when she tried to avoid hitting a pothole in her lane. The driver of the VW Caddy was traveling in the opposite direction from Carletonville to Randfontein and also tried to avoid hitting a pothole in his lane as well.

Marius Fortune from towing company First Help was at the scene to assist the drivers, following the accident.

“It was during this time that the two cars collided and caused the accident, which blocked off traffic,” said Fortune.

He added that the potholes in and around Randfontein are a disaster waiting to happen and urges that they be dealt away with.

Meanwhile, the driver of the VW Caddy escaped the accident unharmed, while the driver of the Haval suffered minor injuries.
