Section of Randfontein Police Station gets a facelift

Randfontein Police spokesperson says renovations will not affect service delivery. "All the people that come into the station will be able to get assistance accordingly, like before."

The Randfontein Police Station is getting a facelift to keep up with the maintenance of the building and be more inviting for locals.

The renovations specifically at the Community Service Centre (CSC) situated at the wing of the station, kick-started in February this year and are expected to be completed by the end of June.

The CSC is at the entrance of the police station and is regarded as a point of front-line service, where people go first to get assistance.

The Herald sat down with station commander Brigadier Jacob Manamela who said that people who wish to make use of the station, will not be affected by the renovations.

“Maintenance is one of our responsibilities in terms of the building and we are being assisted to get it done. However, this does not affect our service delivery. All the people that come into the station will be able to get assistance accordingly, like before. Whatever services that we offered at the CSC, are being offered at the Crime Prevention Hall and the same members are assisting accordingly,” said Brigadier Manamela.

He further emphasised that none of the services at the station are on hold and that elderly people as well as those who are disabled, will be assisted at the victim empowerment office which is on the ground floor and makes it easier to access.

One of the police officers at the station was found helping community members who have come to the station. He was assisting them at the Crime Prevention Hall, where they have been directed to get help, while renovations are ongoing.

“None of the services are on hold, they are still operating. The only thing is that the members must just keep on directing clients so that they don’t get confused. We have also cordoned off the area to make sure that people visiting the station don’t access it, to avoid situations where they might end up getting hurt,” said Manamela.

He added that the renovations are good for the station, as they will make the building more inviting in terms of the structure.
