West Rand police tighten the grip on criminals: Another 176 arrests made

A total of 176 arrests were made by police on the West Rand during multidisciplinary operations held from early Friday morning, February 10 to early Sunday morning, February 12.

Police in the West Rand District tightened their grip on crime and arrested 176 people in total during multidisciplinary operations held from 06:00 on Friday, February 10 to 06:00 on Sunday, February 12.

This included Operation Okae Molao conducted by the Krugersdorp policing precinct.

West Rand District Police spokesperson Sergeant Carmen Hendricks detailed the arrests as follows:

• Two for murder
• Two for robbery
• Two for hijacking, rape, and kidnapping
• Eight for common assault under domestic violence
• One for rape
• Eleven for assault with the intention to commit grievous bodily harm
• One for assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm under the domestic violence act
• Five for contravention of protection order
• One for malicious damage to property and theft
• Twelve for possession of drugs
• Three for hijacking and kidnapping
• Three for possession of stolen property
• Two for possession of gold-bearing material and ammunition
• Two for possession of gold-bearing material
• Two for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle
• Two for possession of suspected stolen property
• Two for possession of dagga
• Eleven for selling liquor without a license
• One for possession of housebreaking implements
• Two for unlawful possession of ammunition
• Five for malicious damage to property
• Two for drunk and driving
• Two for possession of a dangerous weapon
• Four for dealing in dagga
• Two for dealing drugs
• Two for possession of substances suspected to be drugs
• Two for fraud
• One for using a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent
• One for intimidation
• One for intimidation under the domestic violence act
• Two for malicious damage to property under the domestic violence act
• One for housebreaking with intent to steal
• One for pointing of firearm and assault common under the domestic violence act
• Two for assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and robbery
• One for malicious damage to property and robbery
• Five for theft
• Two for reckless and negligent driving
• Two for enticing or pestering with the purpose to commit an indecent act
• One for assault common and malicious damage to property
• Two for illegal mining
• One for obstruction of police duties
• One warrant of arrest

Sergeant Hendricks added minor offenses such as undocumented persons and shoplifting were also policed.

“Anyone with information can make use of the MYSAPS APP or Crime Stop number 08600 10111 to report crime anonymously. All arrested suspects will appear before the respective magistrate courts soon,” said Sergeant Hendricks who added that the West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana thanked all members for their hard work.
