People from different parts of Randfontein kick started the festive season in style and came out in large numbers to ride around town with their bicycles, which were decorated with Christmas lights.

This was on December 8 at the RandMark Clubhouse in Greenhills in what was an annual initiative started by the RandMark Run, Walk, Cycle Club two years ago.
This year marked the third year of the fun ride, which started at the clubhouse in Greenhills and saw members of the community riding to Randgate, Helikon Park, Culemborg Park, Homelake and then back to Greenhills.

Speaking to the Herald at the starting point, member of the club Mark Reid said the main purpose of this was to get everyone in festive spirits and visit houses which have put up Christmas lights around town.
“We just wanted to kickstart the festive season and get everyone in a festive mood and we thought what better way than to light up our bicycles and ride around town.
“We also wanted to support residents that put up Christmas lights at their houses and join them in marking the festive season,” said Reid

This is in line with the purpose of the event which is seemingly getting traction.
According to Reid, they have gotten phone calls from residents who said they will also be putting up lights and would love a visit from the team, since the Herald published their initiative prior to it taking place.
