Close to 30 arrests during GBV campaign in Rand West City

Police in the West Rand District made multiple arrests.

Randfontein Police along with other men and women in blue from 13 stations throughout the West Rand District arrested a total of 29 people during their 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign held on November 30.

The areas in question include Randfontein, Bekkersdal, Mohlakeng and Westonaria among others and the main purpose of the event was to tackle issues around gender-based violence and other social ills.

During this time, cops in the district also clamped down on various other criminal elements which includes:

• one for rape
• one for attempted rape
• one for child neglect
• one for child abuse
• four for assault with the intent to commit grievous bodily harm
• three for assault with the intent to commit grievous bodily harm under domestic violence
• eight for common assault under domestic violence
• two for common assault
• one for intimidation and common assault
• one for theft and malicious damage to property under domestic violence
• one for theft
• one for reckless and negligent driving
• one for common robbery
• one warrant of arrest
• one for contravention of a protection order and crimen injuria
• one for housebreaking

On behalf of the West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana, Lieutenant Colonel Mienkie Magooe thanked all officers of the law for their hard work and dedication in effecting the arrests.
