Mohlakeng girl, 8, wins international pageant
This was at the USA's international Junior Miss 2022 in Florida, where the 8-year-old went head-to-head with 33 contestants in her category.
Mohlakeng resident Resegofetse Mothupi has come out tops and is flying the country’s flag high after being crowned the International Junior Miss Pre-teen 2022/2023.
This was on November 25 at the International Junior Miss 2022 in Florida in the United States of America (USA).
This is where the 8-year-old competed with young girls from different parts of the world in the 7 to 9 year old category, which comprised of 33 contestants.
Mothupi was one of two girls from South Africa taking part in the pageant and managed to bag a win at the prestigious event.
Speaking to the Herald in an interview after landing on home soil following a lengthily flight, Mothupi’s mother Remofilwe Mothupi said she is thrilled about her daughter’s victory.
“It was a hectic competition. It wasn’t easy at all, but we made it. The crown is on home soil, and we are so thrilled about this. She made us so proud especially after all the hard work we put in and the sacrifices we’ve made thus far, ” said Remofilwe who added that they are also thankful to her modelling coach Refilwe Mangope.
She added that a few days before the crowning, the young Resegofetse participated in a few optional competitions.
That’s where she was crowned an overall winner on the runway. She was also crowned as the Fresh Face and also came out as the first runner-up on casual wear.
This is in addition to being in fourth place for the Fun Fitness competition.
She will be heading back to Florida in January for her international photoshoot and again in June for an international trip in relation to the pageant.
In November next year, the young Resegofetse, who goes to Randfontein Primary School, will be flying out once again, to go crown the next International Junior Miss Pre-teen for 2023/2024.
According to Resogofetse, she will forever cherish the day she was crowned.
“I feel so excited and proud that I brought the crown home to South Africa. All the people were so excited especially in my school,” Resegofetse said.
