Police launch manhunt for rape suspect

A woman was forced to undress at gunpoint and eventually raped in Simunye. Police have since launched a manhunt for the rape suspect.

Bekkersdal Police have launched a manhunt for a suspect in connection with a rape incident in Simunye months ago.

According to Bekkersdal Police Spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the crime was committed just before midnight on Friday, September 2.

“The victim was at a hiking spot in Panyapanya going to Simuye when she was picked by a driver of an alleged black VW Polo. Inside were two occupants. They then drove with her to Simunye and just after the bridge, the driver stopped the vehicle and got out to relieve himself.

“The passenger then allegedly took out a firearm and pointed it at the victim. He also ordered her to undress. The driver got back inside the vehicle, raped the victim before leaving her there,” said Sergeant Lefakane.

The suspect is believed to be aged between 36 and 40, has a medium build, very dark in complexion and was wearing a black and red jacket, navy jeans and Adidas sandals.
