Another 165 arrests during Operation Okae Molao in Muldersdrift, Krugersdorp

Police in the West Rand District were at it again, clamping down on criminal activity during another Operation Okae Molao, this time in Muldersdrift and Krugersdorp.

Police across the West Rand District were deployed in Muldersdrift and Krugersdorp last Thursday, November 10 for yet another Operation Okae Molao which yielded 165 arrests.

The mass operation was supported by various stakeholders including members of the Police’s Employees Health and Wellness unit, the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, Mogale City MMC for Community Safety, Mogale City Public Safety, Mogale City local ward councillors, Community Police Forum (CPF) members as well as community patrollers.

Leading from the front was the West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana who stated the safety of the community must be prioritised.

“Firearms and drugs must be removed from the streets, stolen goods and hijacked motor vehicles recovered as well as wanted suspects traced and undocumented persons brought to book. Criminals must not have any space to operate in the district and the community must feel safe wherever they go.”

During the operations, 165 people were arrested for various crimes, such as:
• Two people for attempted murder
• One person for reckless negligent driving
• One person for crimen injuria
• One person for unlawful possession of ammunition
• Seven people for dealing in liquor without license
• Two people possession of drugs
• One person for possession of dagga
• Two people for common robbery
• 30 people for assault with intend to cause grievous bodily harm
• 16 people for common assault
• Nine people for common assault under domestic violence
• Two people for rape
• Six people for house breaking and stolen property
• Two people for possession of drugs (Warrant of Arrest)
• Three people for possession of stolen property
• Two people for possession of suspected stolen property
• 18 people for theft
• 10 people for malicious damage to property
• One person for intimidation
• Five people for contravention of protection order
• One person for tampering with essential infrastructure
• Four people for contempt of court
• Two people for corruption
• One person for theft from motor vehicle

The mass operation spread further into West Village and surrounding areas in pursuit to prevent crime and shut down any illegal mining activities
• 39 Illegal immigrants were arrested
• 68 Road traffic fines valued at R67 200 were issued
• Seven liquor outlets were closed for non-compliance and 518 010ml of liquor was confiscated
• One fine to the value of R1 500 was issued for a non-compliance under the pharmaceutical Act

According to West Rand District Police Spokesperson Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere, law enforcement agencies and members of the community were thanked by Major General Kekana for their commitment during the operation. Mogale City MMC for Community Safety was also thanked for their support.

All arrested suspects will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court soon.
