West Rand police Okae Molao Operations net 151 suspects

The police on the West Rand on Thursday, November 3 arrested 151 suspects during another Operation Okae Molao this time held in Kagiso.

Police on the West Rand tightened their grip on criminal activity in the district during another Operation Okae Molao – this time held in Kagiso on Thursday, November 3.

According to West Rand District Police Spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane, the operation started bright and early at 06:30 and came to an end at 15:00.

“It was a joint and intensified crime prevention operation which included roadblocks and suspect tracing conducted by police and other law enforcement agencies including the Department of Community Safety, Mogale City Public Safety, councillors, the Kagiso Community Policing Forum chairperson as well as community patrollers.”

During the operations, 151 people were arrested for various crimes, such as:

• Two people for murder
• One person for attempted murder
• Two people for armed robbery
• Four people for common robbery
• 29 people for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm
• 10 people for common assault
• 10 people for common assault under the domestic violence act
• Five people for housebreaking and theft
• One person for business burglary
• Two people for theft out of a motor vehicle
• 17 people for theft
• 13 people for malicious damage to property
• One person for pointing a firearm
• Three people for reckless and/or negligence driving
• Four people for contempt of court
• One person for contravening a protection order
• One person for being in possession of drugs (warrant of arrest)
• One person for drunken driving (warrant of arrest)
• One person for fraud
• Two people for kidnapping
• One person for defeating the ends of justice
• One person for perjury
• Two people for being in possession of stolen property
• One person for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition
• Five people for being in possession of drugs
• Two people for being in possession of illegal mining equipment and gold bearing material
• Two people for dealing in liquor without a licence
• One person for dealing in dagga
• One person for contravening the Gauteng gambling act
• Two people for being in possession of dagga
• One person for being in possession of dagga and drugs

In addition, 21 undocumented persons were also arrested and a total of 70 traffic fines to the value of R69 800 issued while two liquor outlets were closed and 124 920 ml liquor confiscated.

“All arrested suspects will appear before the Kagiso Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Captain Sebonyane.

Acting West Rand District Police Commissioner Brigadier Theron commended the members and said, “I am delighted that members are committed in crime combating operations and tracing of wanted suspects, and the efforts put by other law enforcement agencies in the District. Lastly, policing is a concerted effort and information shared with the police by the community, shows the trust the community of Kagiso have and is appreciated”.
