Mapogo crime report: Brazen criminals target teachers in one of several incidents

During one of the incidents teachers where approached by two armed perpetrators who attempted to rob them of their cell phones.

It was a relatively busy week for Mapogo A Mathamaga Security’s client base in Randfontein.

Operations manager at Mapogo, Ben Willemse said seven incidents, most of them housebreaking and theft, were reported for the period between Monday, September 12 and Sunday, September 18.

A breakdown of the incidents:

• Tuesday, September 13 at 19:32 – Armed robbery and theft of a motor vehicle in 2nd Street, Randfontein: Perpetrators took out firearms and held up the shop attendant whilst his accomplices stole the owner’s vehicle and fled the scene.

• Tuesday, September 13 at 11:45 – Housebreaking and theft on Dias Street, Culemborg Park: Perpetrators broke the lock on the main gate, drove their vehicle into the driveway and forced open the safety gate and front door. They stole a television and Xbox and fled the scene.

• Thursday, September 15 at 09:14 – Housebreaking and theft on Unie Street, Randgate: Perpetrators made a hole in the roof to gain entry and damaged the alarm system. They then stole liquor and cigarettes and fled the scene.

• Thursday, September 15 at 15:58 – Attempted armed robbery on Main Reef Road, Randfontein: Two armed perpetrators approached the teachers at the back of the school and attempted to rob them of their cell phones. The teachers gave the alarm and the thugs fled the scene after an altercation with one of the teachers.

• Friday, September 16 at 01:08 – Attempted break-in on Betty Street, Wilbotsdal: Perpetrators broke a pre-cast slab at the back of the premises to gain entry, poisoned the owner’s dog and fled the scene.

• Sunday, September 18 at 05:58 – Housebreaking and theft on Village Street, Randfontein: On arrival at the premises the response officer found perpetrators had forced open the main door, stole a grinder and fled the scene.

• Sunday, September 18 at 10:45 – Theft, Crane Road, Greenhills: On arrival it was found that the lock of the substation had been opened and a light and steel plate were stolen.
