After hitting a pothole on Lazaar Avenue, the heavily pregnant Inge de Beer almost lost control of her car.

After the incident De Beer, who is also a Herald sales consultant had to replace a tyre as well as a wheel cap from her own pocket.

Detailing her story to the Herald while holding receipts of the costs incurred, she said the potholes on Lazaar Avenue were a disaster waiting to happen.

“I was on my way to the office after seeing a client when the incident occurred. The driver of a car coming from the opposite direction was driving in my lane to avoid hitting a pothole. I had to react fast and I swerved to the side of the road to try and avoid a possible accident, but I hit a pothole on the edge of the road.

It really was scary but I understand why that motorist drove onto my lane. He had absolutely nowhere to go and was also trying to avoid hitting a pothole,” said De Beer who added that the road had become increasingly dangerous, and nothing was being done about it.

An off-duty Mapogo A Mathamaga security officer who was travelling with his children came to De Beer’s rescue. He changed her tyre, in what de Beer described as an act of kindness that she would forever be thankful for.
