Power cuts in parts of town suspended

Good news for those living in 11 areas in Rand West City as municipality announces suspension of power cuts for the time being.

Management of the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) confirmed to the Herald that the planned power cuts in parts of town had been suspended.

This comes after a public notice was issued by the Office of the Municipal Manager dated Wednesday March 23 saying that electricity in 11 areas in Rand West City would be disconnected.

“The RWCLM will be disconnecting the following areas due to illegal connections and by-passing of electrical meters, as well as non-payment of municipal accounts.”

Afri-Village; Mohlakeng Hostel; Mohlakeng Extensions 7, 8 and 11; Zenzele; Finsbury; Toekomsrus; Simunye Extensions 1 and 5; and Borwa Phase 2 would have been affected.

The statement further advised that all queries and enquiries be referred to the Credit Control Section in the Finance Directorate at the RWCLM offices.

However, municipal spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa said further notice will be given at a later stage pertaining to the disconnections.

The Herald will provide an update when new information becomes available.
