Westonaria crime stats: Carjacking, common robbery and kidnapping increase, sexual assault and CIT robbery decrease

In the kidnapping category (as per crime statistics by the police for the third quarter of the 2021/2022 period) Westonaria placed 14th in the top 30 stations ranked in the country with a staggering increase of 1 000%.

The police recently revealed the crime statistics for the third quarter of the 2021/2022 period and as always there were the good, the bad and the ugly.

Below are the latest crime statistics for Westonaria only.

With as many as 37 crime categories mentioned in a detailed presentation by the police, Westonaria featured in the top 30 stations ranked in the country once again.

Regarding kidnapping, Westonaria placed 14th in the country with a staggering increase of 1 000% from two for the period October 1 to December 31 2020/ 2021 to 22 for the same period 2021/ 2022.

The following crimes have shown an increase:

CRIMES AGAINST THE PERSON:

• Murder by 180% (from five in in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 14)
• Assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm by 15% (from 20 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 23)
• Common robbery by 260% (from five in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 18)
• Robbery with aggravating circumstances by 27,3% (from 44 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 56)

SEXUAL OFFENCES:

• Attempted sexual offences (from 0 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 1)

AGGRAVATED ROBBERY:

• Carjacking by 61,5% (from 13 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 21)
• Robbery at residential premises by 12,5% (from eight in the same period 2020/ 2021 to nine)
• Robbery at non-residential premises by 14,3% (from seven in the same period 2020/ 2021 to eight)

CONTACT-RELATED CRIMES:

• Malicious damage to property by 46,9% (from 32 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 47)

PROPERTY-RELATED CRIMES:

• Burglary at residential premises by 23,3% (from 60 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 74)

OTHER SERIOUS CRIMES:

• All theft not mentioned elsewhere by 90,2% (from 61 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 116)
• Commercial crime by 30,8% (from 26 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 34)
• Shoplifting by 15,2% (from 46 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 53)

The following crimes have shown a decrease:

CRIMES AGAINST THE PERSON:

• Attempted murder by 35,7% (from 14 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to nine)
• Common assault by 8,8% (from 57 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 52)

SEXUAL OFFENCES:

• Sexual assault by 100% (from one in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 0)

AGGRAVATED ROBBERY:

• Robbery of cash-in-transit by 100% (from one in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 0)
• Truck hijacking by 33,3% (from three in the same period 2020/ 2021 to two)

PROPERTY-RELATED CRIMES:

• Burglary at non-residential premises by 26,7% (from 30 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 22)
• Theft of motor vehicle and motorcycle by 7,1% (from 28 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 26)
• Theft out of or from a motor vehicle by 50% (from 16 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to eight)
• Stock theft by 15,4% (from 13 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 11)

OTHER SERIOUS CRIMES:

• Shoplifting by 6,3% (from 16 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to five)
