Bekkersdal crime stats: Common robbery, sexual offences and property-related crimes increase, aggravated robberies decrease

Bekkersdal's crime statistics for the third quarter of the 2021/2022 period: Big increase in property-related crimes including burglary at non-residential premises while aggravated robberies including carjacking are declining.

The police recently revealed the crime statistics for the third quarter of the 2021/2022 period and as always there were the good, the bad and the ugly.

Below are the latest crime statistics for Bekkersdal only.

PLEASE NOTE: Information below was made available by the South African Police Service and is for the period October 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021.

The following crimes have shown an increase:

CRIMES AGAINST THE PERSON:

• Murder by 58,8% (from 17 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 27)
• Sexual offences by 81,3% (from 16 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 29)
• Common assault by 49,1% (from 53 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 79)
• Common robbery by 120% (from five in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 11)

SEXUAL OFFENCES:

• Rape by 50% (from 16 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 24)
• Sexual assault (from 0 in in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 4)
• Contact sexual offences (from 0 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 1)

AGGRAVATED ROBBERY:

• Robbery at residential premises by 133,3% (from six in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 14)

PROPERTY-RELATED CRIMES:

• Burglary at non-residential premises by 325% (from four in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 17)
• Burglary at residential premises by 15,6% (from 32 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 37)
• Theft out of or from motor vehicle by 33,3% (from six in the same period 2020/ 2021 to eight)
• Stock-theft by 50% (from six in the same period 2020/ 2021 to nine)

OTHER SERIOUS CRIMES:

• All theft not mentioned elsewhere by 58,3% (from 36 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 57)
• Commercial crime by 33,3% (from six in the same period 2020/ 2021 to eight)

The following crimes have shown a decrease:

CRIMES AGAINST THE PERSON:

• Attempted murder by 50% (from 20 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to ten)
• Assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm by 24,1% (from 108 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 82)
• Robbery with aggravating circumstances by 7,8% (from 51 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 47)

AGGRAVATED ROBBERY:

• Carjacking by 23,1% (from 13 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to ten)
• Robbery at non-residential premises by 33,3% (from nine in the same period 2020/ 2021 to six)
• Robbery of cash-in-transit by 100% (from one in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 0)

CONTACT-RELATED CRIMES:

• Malicious damage to property by 9,8% (from 41 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 37)

PROPERTY-RELATED CRIMES:

• Theft of motor vehicle and motorcycle by 33,3% (from 12 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to eight)
