Police in the West Rand District made their presence felt in Mogale City when making 199 arrests during O Kae Molao operations which started at 05:30 and lasted until 14:00 on Thursday, February 17.
In addition, 73 fines the value of R73 200 were issued for traffic violations.
West Rand District Police spokesperson Sergeant Carmen Hendricks said the main focus of the operation was to conduct two roadblocks – one at Paardekraal and Luipaard Streets in Krugersdorp, while the second was held at Beyers Naude Drive and the N14 in Muldersdrift.
The jointly integrated operations were led by West Rand District Police commissioner Major General Fred Kekana, and involved members from Visible Policing, Detectives, Crime Intelligence, Public Order Policing, Employee Health and Wellness, Community Safety and Mogale City Traffic Police.
The 199 suspects were arrested for the following:
• Three for murder
• One for attempted murder
• Five for house robbery
• Four for rape
• 33 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
• One for armed robbery
• Two for business robbery
• Six for attempted escape
• 27 for common assault
• Two for contravening a protection order
• Two for housebreaking and theft
• One for drunken driving
• Seven for intimidation
• 17 for malicious damage to property
• One for pointing a firearm
• One for being in possession of gold-bearing material
• One for bribery
• Three for being in possession of drugs
• Two for being in possession of dagga
• Five for dealing in liquor without a licence
• One for dealing in dagga and drugs
• One for being in possession of gold-bearing material (warrant of arrest)
• Seven for being in possession of stolen property
• One for being in possession of suspected stolen property
• Two for reckless and/ or negligent driving
• Eight for theft
• One for theft out of a motor vehicle
• One for illegal mining
• 60 undocumented persons were also arrested
All arrested suspects will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.
Major General Kekana expressed his appreciation and thanked all members and other law-enforcement agencies for their dedication, commitment and hard work by making sure that the whole of the West Rand was safer.
The aim is to let the community feel safer and more secure,” he said.
