One injured during a shooting related to CIT heist on R501

Another CIT heist on the West Rand, this time on the R501 outside of Westonaria on Friday morning.

A man was injured in a shooting related to a cash-in-transit heist on the R501 outside of Westonaria on Friday, February 11.

ER24 spokesperson, Russell Meiring explained that their paramedics arrived on scene at approximately 09:30 to find the blown-open cash van in the middle of the road, with debris scattered across the scene.

Paramedics assessed several people on the scene and found that no one had sustained any injuries. Shortly afterwards paramedics were called to Cactus Street in Carletonville where a shooting had occurred which was believed to be related to the heist,” Meiring said.

Paramedics found that a law-enforcement officer had sustained a gunshot wound to his foot. “The man was treated and transported to a private hospital for further care, and it’s understood that five men were detained by the local authorities,” Meiring concluded.
