RWCLM spokesperson Phillip Monsthiwa said, “It’s true the substation has been vandalised but it’s an Eskom substation and we don’t have access to it”.

According to Zelda Fourie, one of the residents who depends on the substation for her power supply, it is believed that it was vandalised between Sunday night November 7 and Monday morning, November 8.

Power only returned yesterday, Wednesday November 10. Vandalism causes most farmers to battle. From Monday morning until yesterday farmers stressed because they could not get their work done. We are really fed up. This is on top of the load-shedding,” Fourie said.

The Herald spoke to Eskom’s representative, Tumi Mashishi, who said the matter would be brought to the attention of the relevant department to investigate.
