R3 to ‘compensate’ a child for raping her
Police are investigating yet another shocking incident of rape, this time a girl aged eight who was given R3 as 'compensation'..
Bekkersdal Police are investigating a case involving an eight-year-old girl who was raped by an unknown man in Bekkersdal on Thursday, November 4.
According to Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the man entered the yard complaining of a headache and requested help from the victim’s grandmother.
“The grandmother went to a nearby tuck shop to buy painkillers for the man but when she came back, she was shocked to see him walking out of the shack where the victim was said to be having a bath. His fly was open. He left without taking the painkillers,” Sergeant Lefakane said.
Shortly afterwards it was discovered that child was raped by the same man who had threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident. The victim further informed her grandmother he had given her R3 after raping her,” Sergeant Lefakane said.
On Monday, November 8, a 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Bekkersdal weeks before. Police said he allegedly took the girl away in front of her friends and after a while she came back with a R10 note.
The day before, on Sunday, November 7, police arrested a man in his late 30s also in Bekkersdal for attempting to suffocate and rape a 14-year-old girl. A neighbour fortunately came to her rescue.
