Girl aged 13 raped, returns with R10 note

Another man, 32, has been arrested for allegedly raping a girl aged 13.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on Monday, November 8 for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Bekkersdal weeks before.

According to Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the suspect was arrested after members of the community showed police his hideout – which was a nearby shack. It’s said he only came out at night.

“He allegedly raped the victim at about 18:00 on October 31 after he allegedly took the girl away in front of her friends. After a while the victim came back with a R10 note,” said Sergeant Lefakane.

“The victim also told her mother it wasn’t the first time he had raped her.”

The suspect is expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.

“We are appealing to the community, especially mothers, to talk to their girls and warn them to be careful of these sexual predators,” Sergeant Lefakane added.

The Bekkersdal Police station commander Colonel Phumelele Matamela commended the members for their efforts and apprehending the suspect.

The day before, on Sunday, November 7, police arrested a man in his late 30s also in Bekkersdal for attempting to suffocate and rape a 14-year-old girl. A neighbour fortunately came to her rescue.
