UPDATE: No outright majority for ANC

Support for the DA drops while the EFF, FF+ and PA gain votes in Rand West City.

The full results are in and the African National Congress (ANC) failed to win the outright majority in Rand West City. Out of all the parties who contested this year’s Local Government Elections, the ANC received the most votes with 45,33%. The Democratic Alliance (DA) is second with 23% and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) third with 15,05% according to the IE.

Despite being under some pressure going into the elections, the ANC received the majority of the votes (49 633) in Rand West City, with a decrease in support of 13,26% from 52,26% in 2016. They will have 32 local council seats.

The DA is in second place, having secured 25 198 votes. The party will have 16 local council seats. This is a decrease of 14,56% from 26,92% in 2016, to 23% in 2021.

The support of the EFF, which secured 16 490 votes in 2021, increased by 25,73% from 11.97% in 2016 to 15,05% in 2021. They will have 11 local council seats.

In fourth place is the Freedom Front Plus with 3,86% (4 227 votes) – this is an increase of 145,86% from the 2016 elections. They will have three local council seats.

Fifth is the Patriotic Alliance (PA) with 2,81% (3 084 votes) – an increase of 787,5% from the 2016 elections. They will have two local council seats.

Independent took sixth place with 2,39%; followed by the Azanian People’s Organisation (AZAPO) with 1,26% securing them one local council seat; Randfontein People’s Party (RPP) with 1,21% securing them one local council seat; the African Independent Congress (AIC) with 1,04%% securing them one local council seat; the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) with 0,9%% securing them one local council seat; the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) with 0,81%% securing them one local council seat; Congress of the People (COPE) with 0,53%; United Democratic Movement (UDM) with 0,52%; and other with 1,27%.
