Home invasions remain a concern – police after two Greenhills incidents

Randfontein Police have again issued a warning to the Randfontein community following two home invasions in Greenhills recently.

Randfontein Police have again urged the community to be vigilant following two home invasions in the Greenhills area recently.

“Randfontein Police are pleading with the community to be vigilant and take extra precautions,” said their spokesperson Sergeant Carmen Hendricks.

Alluding to some of the cases, Sergeant Hendricks said a 30-year-old man was robbed by three thugs at his home on Condor Street, Greenhills on Monday October 25 at around 02:00.

The victim had just arrived home and was surprised to see his gate and house door open, knowing he had locked them before he left. He went inside his house to investigate and found three unknown men who ordered him to keep quiet. They forced him into the bedroom, and while the others robbed him of his possessions, one of the robbers watched him,” Sergeant Hendricks said.

In another incident in Greenhills on Wednesday October 27, also at around 02:00, a 29-year-old woman was woken by intruders in his house. One of them had a crowbar.

“They ransacked her house and took electrical appliances, clothing items, a laptop and tablets, and fled the scene. The victim saw the robbers leaving the scene in a white VW Polo with an unknown registration number,” Sergeant Hendricks said.

Later it was found that the thugs had gained entry by forcing open the kitchen door.

The police offered the public the following safety tips:

• If you arrive at your house and find doors open, do not enter, rather call the police as the intruders might still be inside.
• Ensure the windows and doors are properly fitted with burglar bars and where possible use padlocks. They should always be locked.
• Contact your police station immediately when you hear or notice suspicious behaviour.
• Do not fight with the intruders.
• Try to memorise features by which to identify the perpetrators, their clothing, maybe tattoos, and if they use a vehicle to get the registration number and make of the vehicle.

Randfontein Police are requesting the public to come forward with any information that could assist in finding these perpetrators. We appeal to the public not to accept or buy anything from people selling items on the street.

“You can contact 011 414 4992, alternatively 071 675 7094, or make use of the My SAPS app or contact the Crime Stop number on 0860010111 to report crime anonymously,” Sergeant Hendricks said.
