Three bodies of suspected zama-zamas found in Toekomsrus

Three people believed to be illegal miners found dead in Toekomsrus.

Randfontein Police confirmed that bodies of three people believed to be illegal miners were discovered in Toekomsrus on Friday morning, 19 March.

Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, the Randfontein Police spokesperson said an inquest is under investigation.

She added police were contacted at about 8am and informed about three bodies in an open veld at a construction site in Toekomsrus.

“Upon their arrival the members found the bodies suspected to be zama-zamas.

“The police were informed that there were more bodies in the trench that caved in. The K9 Search and Rescue unit and Ranfontein Fire Department was called. They searched the place and nothing was found. The ambulance was called and upon their arrival all three male bodies were certified dead on the scene.”
