R’fontein and Krugersdorp’s Queens and Kings crowned in Muldersdrift

A year’s hard work culminated in a night of glitz and glamour recently when the finals of the Miss, Ms, Mr and Mrs Krugersdorp and Randfontein Pageants were held at the Ekudeni Exclusive Country Venue in Muldersdrift.

This year’s competition came with its own challenges as Covid-19 and lockdown prohibited many of the events from happening. But even with this setback contestants came together and helped their communities as much as they could.

The finals that were held on Saturday, 21 November, started off with the famous Jerusalema dance by Master KG ft Nomcebo by all the contestants.

Dalien Steenkamp (Mrs Randfontein 2018) and Rodney Prins (Mr Randfontein 2019) were the hosts while Liezl Bruwer (Mrs Krugersdorp 2019), Leonie Pretorius (Mrs Randfontein 2019), Marco Shubert, Marisa Romanelli, Nelius du Preez, Shelbe Pretorius, Mischa van Riel and Alicia Mienie made up the judges panel.

Throughout the night, Chrizahn Pittendrigh entertained the crowd with her musical stylings while Jaco Bothma from Empire Photography captured the night on film.

Contestants first had to model their own creations which had to be made from recyclable materials. Some of the outfits looked like they could have come from a runway in Prague.

Then the contestants, in their evening wear, had one final shot to impress the judges on the runway. The older contestants each had to answer a question from one of the judges about who their role models were; their most important lessons learned in life; and what positives came out of lockdown.

“Welcome to your life; Welcome to your living; Welcome to many challenges that you will face; It will never be about worrying what is going to happen tomorrow, it is about showing up in the best possible version of yourself. People will never remember what you did for them, but they will always remember how you made them feel,” read a message from the board.

There were also two unexpected surprises at the end of the night – the first when it was announced that 2019’s Mr Randfontein Rodney Prins will be continuing his reign for another year, and the second when for the first time ever, the pageant announced a Mr and Ms West Rand.

Mr West Rand is Richard Haasbroek while Ms West Rand is Doreen Bezuidenhout. Look out in the coming weeks when the News will introduce you to your new winners.
