Planned power outage in many areas on Friday

Residents of at least 13 areas should brace themselves for a planned power outage this Friday.

Residents should brace themselves for a power outage of more than eight hours this Friday, 26 June due to follow-up repairs at Drowel Substation.

At least 13 areas will be affected, including Bootha Plots, WIlbotsdal, Wheatlands, Elandsvlei, Oosterplotte, Greenhills, Helikon Park, Culemborg Park, Eikepark, a portion of Homelake, Randgate, Randpoort and Loumarina.

A notice received by the Rand West City Local Municipality reads: “Following the recent switchgear failure and emergency repairs done at Drowel Substation we need to do follow-up repairs between 8.30am and 5pm on Friday, 26 June. Our apologies in advance.”

Alwyn van Tonder, councillor for Ward 3 (farming and rural areas) has urged residents to treat their electricity supply points as live at all times as the supply may be restored at any time.

“Should you have power, please use electricity sparingly until maintenance work is completed. Switch off non-essential appliances, including geysers,” he said.
