Councillor upset by continuous water leaks

'Some leaks date back to 2016' – local ward councillor.

Gerald Samson, Ward 10 councillor in Toekomsrus said heavy water leaks are driving him and all the other residents up the wall as it is a waste of an essential resource the Rand West City residents need.

Since he started his term in 2016, Samson said he has submitted several reports on the many leaks in the ward, yet four years later, the problem has still not been resolved properly.

The councillor said this happens while some residents have no water in their homes. Photo submitted.

Samson said what is even more worrying is that some residents have no water, as restriction stoppers had been fixed to their water meters.

“Two boys who used to live with an elderly lady were left without water after she passed away in 2018. They had to rely on their neighbours, but it was becoming difficult to continue doing so. Eventually their water was restored after almost three years of fighting and putting pressure on the municipality,” Samson said.

But, Sampson said, many residents have it even worse.

What he found to be the most frustrating, he added, was the struggle to have such important issues addressed and being inundated with calls of complaints.
