Long sentences for illegal miners

Two men found guilty and sentenced for illegal mining and attempted theft of gold-bearing material.

Two men aged 29 and 30 were both found guilty and sentenced to four years direct imprisonment for illegal mining, and two years direct imprisonment for attempted theft of gold-bearing material.

According to Sergeant Carmen, Randfontein Police spokesperson, the sentences were handed down in February.

Detective Constable Thembinkosi Qoboza investigated the case.

“Zama zamas and illegal mining in and around the Randfontein area remain a huge problem,” Hendricks added.

Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, Randfontein Police station commander applauded the member for his hard work and dedication.
