Residents take matters into their own hands by fixing potholes

Residents of Eike Park said enough was enough and took matters into their own hands by fixing potholes.

Three residents from Eike Park realised that the pothole problems in their area were getting out of hand, so they did something about it.

Utukile Ntheledi and Tebogo Setlhabe said they were inspired by a neighbour who also took matters into his own hands by filling a number of potholes with cement.

“Yesterday (16 January) Tebogo and I were having a drink and decided to challenge one another to follow the example of our neighbour because the municipality is definitively not doing anything about it, despite our paying our rates, taxes and for services,” Utukile said.

Utukile and Tebogo said that since they were still on leave, they decided to tackle the problem at hand.

“We woke up this morning, and took some of our own money and bought some cement. Our neighbours who are busy building gave us some concrete mix as well, he added.

We can’t just sit back and watch as our neighbourhood goes downhill.

“The problem is not going to be solved if you wait indefinitely for someone to fix it. It is simply not going to happen …” both agreed.
