UPDATE: Fire damages former ‘Train Restaurant’; no injuries reported

"We are going to be here for a while," fire department after one of Randfontein’s most iconic landmarks caught fire.

Local firefighters responded to a fire at the Riebeeck Lake. This after the former train restaurant (as it is known by locals) caught fire on Tuesday night, 5 November.

It is considered to be one of Randfontein’s most iconic landmarks.

According to MJ Laubscher, Randfontein Fire and Rescue Services station officer, the fire may have started with grass catching fire.

He said the exact extent of the damage is unknown at this stage and were no injuries reported.

We are going to be here for a while,” Laubscher told the Herald on scene.
