Rubbish galore in Greenhills, Homelake

Rubbish remains both a nuisance and a health hazard, especially in Greenhills and Homelake.

Illegal dumping continues to be both a nuisance and a worrying sight for residents of Greenhills and Homelake.

This after more and more rubbish has been spotted piling up in various streets in both areas.

According to councillor Ellik de Lange, apart from it causing a serious health risk for locals, he said he is being inundated with calls from irate residents wanting him to get the mess sorted out.

“Some of the rubbish is in the open field next to the Department of Education on Mimosa Street in Greenhills, and more can be seen on the corner of Norman Road and Beatrice Avenue in Homelake,” he said.

De Lange said he continuously makes an effort to have the issue reported in the Council’s war room, so that it can be addressed by the relevant departments, but the response has been unsatisfactory.

“The residents are, understandably, constantly pushing me to do something about the issue. I have written numerous letters to council in the past, especially about the mess in Homelake, but nothing effective has been done. The council might clean up the area today, but by tomorrow, it will look exactly the same. We will hopefully get all the answers at the next council meeting, which is on Wednesday, 30 October,” De Lange added.
