#WisdomWednesday: ‘Are our schools safe or not?’ – MEC speaks to the Herald

For this week's #WisdomWednesday the Herald spoke to Faith Mazibuko, MEC for Community Safety in Gauteng, about how safety in schools has been compromised and what has to be to done to bring what she referred to as a 'crisis' under control.

Safety in school has become a priority following several incidents across the country in which the lives of both learners and teachers were lost.

In one of the latest incidents, a learner was reportedly stabbed to death at a school in Sebokeng.

For this week’s #WisdomWednesday the Herald spoke to Faith Mazibuko, MEC for Community Safety in Gauteng, about how safety in schools has been compromised and what has to be to done to bring what she referred to as a ‘crisis’ under control.

Mazibuko, who was also at a search operation at T M Letlhake Secondary School, where weapons and drugs were discovered, expressed her anger and condemned the behaviour.

“The sooner the parents help the teachers the better, because it can’t only be the responsibility of teachers to instil discipline. Parents need to come to the party,” Mazibuko.

She added that in order to bring this lawlessness under control, unannounced visits will continually be conducted across the province in order to make schools safer again.
