Girls aged nine and 16 raped – two wanted

In the most recent incident, two men allegedly took turns raping a 16-year-old girl – Police.

Two girls, aged nine and 16 respectively, were raped in separate incidents in Bekkersdal, according to the police.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said that in the first incident, a 23-year-old man appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court recently after he allegedly raped his nine-year-old niece last week.

Lefakane said in the most recent incident, which took place at about 9.30pm on Saturday, 31 August, two men allegedly took turns raping a 16-year-old girl in the Mandela section of Bekkersdal.

Lefakane added that this victim was walking home from a friend when the two men pounced on her.

“They dragged her to a nearby shack and took turns raping her. The suspects are currently unknown but investigation will continue.”

Police heavily condemned the violence and crimes and said it remains the core responsibility of the police to eradicate it.

“We are making an appeal to the public to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the two wanted men, and again advise the public to be always vigilant and avoid walking in secluded areas where they are at risk of being attacked,” Lefakane added.
