The Bekkersdal Police have arrested five suspects aged between 19 and 31 for the murder of a 17 year old at a tavern in Zuurbekom during the weekend.
According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the youngster was stabbed and killed following an argument at a local tavern at about 10.10am on Sunday, 30 June.
“Police were summoned to the scene after the deceased was spotted in an open veld near the tavern. Preliminary investigations were conducted which led the police to where the fight started.

“Three of the suspects were arrested in the afternoon of the same day while two others were arrested earlier this morning (1 July). They will all be charged with murder and are expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.”
Colonel Tinus Swart, the Bekkersdal Police station commander commended the members for job well done and for speedily attending to the case and ensuring the perpetrators were brought to book. The murder weapon was also recovered.
