Elderly man hijacked by armed men on R559

A man was hijacked by three men after they had indicated to him that he should stop to check his vehicle.

Three men, two of them armed, dropped off an elderly man 7km from where they had hijacked him.

Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson said that the 56-year-old man alleged that he was hijacked on Friday, 8 March at approximately 12 noon, but only reported the incident on Monday, 11 March.

“The complainant alleged that he was travelling from Lenasia to Lenmed Randfontein Private Hospital to make deliveries. While driving on the R559 near Sibanye Gold Cooke 1, a maroon Volkswagen Polo and a white Nissan NP200 indicated to him that there was a problem with his vehicle,” she said.

According to Hendricks, the driver pulled over and the two vehicles also stopped. Three unknown men, two with firearms, ordered him to get out of his vehicle. The assailants covered his head and he was forced into the back of his vehicle.

“The alleged hijackers later dropped him off near Sibanye Cooke 3 in Bekkersdal where he received help. The vehicle that was hijacked is a white Toyota Quantum with registration number FY 27 WW GP. No shots were fired,” Hendricks added. The registration numbers of the suspects’ vehicles are unknown.
