New teachers at Randfontein Primary School

The four new young teachers at Rem said they are settling in for their mission.

A batch of four, fresh young teachers joined the staff of Randfontein Primary School in the 2019 academic calendar.

Tebogo Moatshe, 22; Florence Molema, 23; Mari-Lize la Grange, 22, and Duane Benson, 23, are excited to have join the teaching fraternity at the school.

“I am very excited but I am also nervous, but things will eventually fall into place,” Mari-Lize said.

Florence said that especially in the beginning of your teaching career, you may not know quite what to expect. However, the new teachers have been supported and welcomed at the school, especially by the school’s staff.

“From the first day, everyone greeted us with a smile. Every time I walk past a parent, a learner or even a teacher it’s always ‘Hi! How are you?’ They are all friendly and you can always go to anyone at anytime,” Mari-Lize said.

Asked about why he chose RPS, Tebogo said, “Upon visiting this school I felt it was really a conducive environment for both learning and teaching. I’m here to expand my skills and grow as a teacher. I have a lot to learn in this place”.

The trio said once they have a system in place, they can start rolling.

Mari-Lize said she has always wanted to be a teacher because of her love for children.

“I felt I have the teacher’s heart, I love working with the children and listening to their stories. It is very interesting because every child is unique.

“I think we can learn a lot from them, just as much they can learn from us,” Mari-Lize said.

Although she said teaching was not her first choice of career, Florence said she has grown to love it and is happy that she has made the right choice.

Tebogo said: “I think this is one of the most sacrificial professions out there, there is a lot more we can do for ourselves personally, but when you think about what we are doing here, is very important because we are ushering in an entire generation.”
