JUST IN: EMS on strike

'EMS staff services on the West Rand are on hold due to a salary dispute.'

Emergency Services personnel from stations in Rand West City, as well as Krugersdorp, are threatening a total shutdown should the West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) not meet their demands.

According to Tumi Riba, the Herald journalist on scene, “EMS staff services on the West Rand are on hold due to a salary dispute”.

The situation in Randfontein.

The Herald could confirm that at least three unions are representing the angry employees, one of them being the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU).

According to Bongani Mgcina, SAMWU spokesperson, “Employees will not budge until third party funds (for example, medical aid, pension and provident fund contributions) are paid”.
