Man stabbed and killed: Wife arrested days after police find murder weapon in the couple's house.

A 38-year-old woman of Bekkersdal was arrested three days after her husband was stabbed to death during the weekend.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, confirmed that the wife was arrested by Bekkersdal Police detectives on Tuesday night, 6 November, following investigations into a murder that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 3 November.

“It is alleged the couple was enjoying themselves at a local tavern in the X-section of Bekkersdal when a fight broke out between them and two male patrons. It is further alleged the couple then went out, leaving the two men behind and returned later armed with a knife and knopkierie. The patrons were attacked and in the process the husband was wounded.

“He was rushed to the Bekkersdal Clinic where he was pronounced dead. Police were called to the scene and a case of murder was registered. The case was assigned to detective Sevha Shiviti, who then discovered the murder weapon at the couple’s house. The wife will be charged with murder and the motive for the stabbing will be investigated further. She is expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.”

Lefakane added the detective was applauded for swiftly reacting to the case and thanked the community for the information that led to the arrest.
