Pembury Lifestyle Group (PLG) Greenhills Academy held their first ever prize-giving ceremony on Thursday, 1 November.
The prestige event was held in the school’s hall and was well attended by community members and parents.
PLG opened its doors as a new private school operating in Randfontein in January this year. They offer education in English at three levels, namely, Pre-Primary, Primary and High School.
Monica Bayliss, the principal of PLG, said that teaching children is about more than just education, because everyone impacts each others’ lives.
“I believe that you meet everyone at a certain point in their journey but you don’t necessarily know at what point of their journey they are. However, if you impart a part of yourself, you will make your life and theirs richer. I am blessed to be a part of every learner’s journey,” she said.
At PLG they do things a bit differently. Instead of just giving prizes for academic performance and sports participation, they also award learners for extramural activities and most importantly, their character. The trophies were sponsored by an anonymous sponsor.
“I am so overwhelmed by the support from parents and the community. I’m so proud of the staff for their tremendous work this year.”
During the ceremony, each learner’s name was glued onto a silver star on a wall in the hall. This wall will be known as the hall of fame and gives learners the opportunity to leave their mark in the school.
