Little horse-riding champs shine

Two young girls are not just best of friends, they're also two of Randfontein's horse-riding champs.

Mischa Rothman, 12, and Kyra Cronje, 11 are not just best friends, they’re also two of Randfontein’s horse-riding champs.

The duo won the National South African National Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa) challenge held at the Fourways Riding Centre on Friday, 28 September. Kyra ended in the first place, with Mischa in second place.

Although Mischa and Kyra started riding at a very young age, they said it took a lot of hard work to qualify for the Sanesa competition.

They believed that they were fortunate to have been introduced to horse-riding, especially since there are not many facilities for the sport in Randfontein.

Having both started the sport differently, they said they are equally passionate about the sport.

“With me, it started with my father buying me a horse named Whisper and I just got attached to him and started riding,” Mischa said.

Kyra said, “For me, my mother wanted me to try riding because I was not involved in sporting activities at school.”

Asked about what their future aspirations are, the duo said they would like to motivate other children in town with the same dreams and love of the sport.

“It’s all about how well you get along with your horse – there has to be that connection between man and animal,” Mischa said.

The duo concluded by saying they will continue representing Randfontein with pride.
