The Herald’s plan for abused women

“As mentioned recently, we have moved onto phase two of the project and that is to fill the handbags with basic necessities. Phase one was to collect 37 handbags (second-hand and preferably in a good condition) but thanks to our loyal community’s support for the project, our expectations were exceeded. The Indigo Helping Hand Foundation in Middelvlei alone donated 33 handbags and we are extremely grateful for everyone’s contribution.

“Thanks to Spar Greenhills’ kind donation we could start phase two with a bang and tick toothpaste, toothbrush, soap and a notebook off the list. We thank the owners and staff. The donated items will be much appreciated. However, the project still needs a number of items (please see list below).

“Those who wish to contribute can make up a hamper of their choice – nothing too extravagant or expensive – or donate items from the list below. Simply put the donations in a plastic bag and drop them off at our office at 113 Kenneth Avenue, Greenhills or give us a call and we will arrange to have it collected.”

The Riet Family Guidance Centre, a non-governmental welfare and educational organisation in Randfontein, which is dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights of women and their dependent children, will be the beneficiary.
