The Carletonville FCS Unit has released an identity kit picture of a rape suspect after he allegedly repeatedly raped an 18-year-old victim.

The victim alleged that she was waiting to board a train, on her way from Waterworks to Westonaria, when she saw a taxi next to the robots and decided to board it as it was getting late. There were five occupants including the driver inside the taxi. One of the occupants was dropped off in Zuurbekom.

“The taxi drove up to Waterpan near Westonaria. The victim was startled when she noted that the driver was driving into the open field instead of proceeding along the road.

He stopped in the field where he instructed her to undress. When she refused, one of the other occupants took out a knife and threatened her with it,” she said.

The driver raped the victim repeatedly until the next morning while the other taxi occupants were watching. He then drove a few metres further and dropped her off along the road. The victim managed to walk home and later reported the incident to the police.

The suspects are still at large and investigation continues. The victim was able to assist the police with compiling the driver’s ID kit. He is alleged to be about 1,68m tall, medium build, dark in complexion and has traditional markings on both cheeks. He was speaking Zulu.

“We are appealing to the public to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators. We urge the community to refrain from boarding roaming taxis or using lifts as some motorists are driving around just to commit crime,” Lefakane added.

Anyone who can assist the police with information can contact the Bekkersdal Police on 011 755 0000/ 6, or Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or they can contact the investigating officer, detective Constable Takalani Malaka of the Carletonville FCS on 082 778 9048.
