The Life Esidimeni Randfontein Centre has marked Mandela Day by reopening a revamped library and opening a halfway house for its female residents.
Welcoming the opening of the two facilities, Johan Lombaard, the manager of the Life Esidimeni Randfontein Centre said, “We had a very small library on the premises and one of the things that was important to me was giving our clients knowledge. We are just trying to give all our clients more choices in life”.

He said the West Rand District Municipality had a hand in helping to enlarge the facility.
“We want our clients in a year’s time to have the opportunity of being exposed to different worlds, and what better way is there to do so than through books.”
Regarding the newly launched halfway house for the women, Lombard said the facility will help those who have completed a primary treatment programme and cannot go back to their homes, to regain their independence. The halfway house accommodates 24 women.

“We will also be doing skills development for them and continue working on their recovery. From our side, we want to thank the Gauteng Department of Social Development for listening and realising that there was a need for this. We also want to thank them for acting quickly.”
