Hotrod Challenge described as epic

On Saturday, 2 June, the Hotrod Challenge was hosted by the Randfontein Oval Raceway, where all clubs were welcomed and prizes were handed over to the winners.

Residents and friends enjoyed some mind-blowing action. The different race classes kept the whole crowd entertained. The racing started at 6pm, and the drivers did not hold back.

The winner of the first Hotrod prize was the very happy Albert van der Westhuizen. Second place went to Jeandre Venter and third to Johan Knoetze. In the 1660s category, Sam East came first, Ruan de Lange second and Jakkie van der Merwe took third place.

The 2100s champion was Juan Adriaan Prinsloo, with Francois van der Merwe second, and Etienne Graham third.

In the Flexi category, Hein Lehmkuhl won, with Albert van der Westhuizen second and Bennie Nieuwoudt third.

The interesting Stockrods category’s first place went to Jopie Cilliers, second to Andre Pretorius and Etienne Graham took the third place.

The Rookie category winner was the power bomb Marilize Coetzee. Rudi Nel came in second and Surette van der Vyver captured third place.

The SideCars, which is sometimes really nerve-wracking to watch, gave Konrad Spike Britz the winning title, with Kallie Britz in second and Leon Potgieter third.

Time for the Kiddies category, which Stian and Anita Smit won. Second was Jakes and Lientjie Jacobs, while Gavin and Shane East did very well and received a third placing.

A very proud Martin Nel came first in the Midget category.

The prizes were amazing, first prize being R5 000, second prize R3 000 and third prize R2 000.

The second place sponsor was RCB Racing, with Martin and Jolanda Nel and Coetzee Trailers Steelworks helping out with the third prize. Randfontein Oval Raceway donated the first prize.

The next event, the ‘Challenge of Champs’ will be on 16 June, and on 30 June, you can watch the promising Sterkman Competition.
